Natalia and Steve always dreamed of having children. After trying IVF without success, they didn’t give up hope — instead, they embraced adoption as the path to growing their family.
When they attended an information session, a social worker soon visited their home to support them through the process.
Natalia lives with Bipolar disorder, a condition she manages well with medication. At first, she worried about how her mental health might affect their chances. But with honesty, openness, and the unwavering support of their social worker, those fears were gently eased.
While disabilities and mental health conditions can sometimes feel like barriers, Natalia and Steve’s journey shows they don’t have to be. Each adoption application is carefully considered, with a focus on the stability and support a family can offer — always prioritising the child’s needs.
During the early stages, they attended a three-day preparation training, which Steve says was his favourite part.
We met other hopeful adopters on the same journey, and many of those friendships continue today. We still meet up as often as we can.
After reaching the adoption panel stage, Natalia and Steve were approved to adopt. Soon after, they were matched with their little girl, who transitioned from foster care to their home in just ten days.
Their family grew even more magical a few years later when they welcomed their little boy through adoption, completing their family in the most beautiful way.
Music is a big part of their lives — they attend family festivals, share sing-alongs at bedtime, and fill their home with joy through kitchen karaoke sessions, creating memories they will treasure forever.
If you’re thinking about adoption and want to learn more, book onto one of our information sessions. Every family’s journey is unique, and support is always available.
