Accessing your adoption records
If you’re an adopted adult living in the Merseyside area and would like help accessing your adoption records, we’re here to help. This service is commissioned to PAC UK on behalf of Adoption in Merseyside.
You can contact PAC UK directly, if you currently live in Merseyside on 0151 703 9086.
If you’re not sure where to start, don’t worry. Just get in touch with the Adoption Support team at AiM, and we can help you to understand the process.
You can also contact the General Register Office (GRO) to request your birth records. Once processed, the GRO can send the information directly to us, or, if you prefer, to the agency that arranged your adoption.

Tracing and intermediary services
After viewing your adoption records, you might be considering tracing and possibly contacting birth family members. If so, PAC UK offers a specialist service to help with this – please note that there is a cost involved.
If you’d prefer not to have any contact with birth relatives, that’s your choice. You can register a Veto or Partial Veto through the agency that arranged your adoption. You also have the option to express your wishes for no contact on the Adoption Contact Register via the General Register Office (GRO).
If you were adopted in Merseyside but now live elsewhere, the local authority where you currently reside will be the best place to get advice about tracing and intermediary services in your current area.
