Every family that has adopted a child is entitled to receive an assessment of their support needs at any point, regardless of how much time has passed since the adoption was finalised.
We recognise that adoption is a lifelong journey, and support may be needed at various stages as your family grows and evolves.
Our dedicated adoption support team comprises experienced social workers and support staff who are committed to working closely with you.
They will meet with you to discuss your unique circumstances, listen to your concerns, and explore all available options.
Through a thorough assessment, we will identify tailored packages of support designed to meet the specific needs of your family and help ensure a positive and nurturing environment for your child.
In addition to these personalised assessments, we provide access to a dedicated phone line staffed by knowledgeable professionals.
Our goal is to offer continuous, compassionate support to help your family thrive throughout the adoption journey and beyond. We encourage you to reach out at any time, whether you are facing challenges or seeking information and reassurance.
What’s on offer?
Our team is dedicated to responding to the needs of both children and their adoptive parents, offering a wide range of support services. These can include everything from general advice and information to direct interventions, training, and group activities. This service is available during office hours whenever you need advice, guidance, or simply someone to talk to.
Support groups provide an opportunity for parents to connect, deepen their understanding of their children’s challenges, and develop strategies that promote positive change.
Direct work with children and young people, as identified during a support needs assessment, and covers areas such as anger and anxiety management, lifework, and sessions addressing important topics like racial identity, self-esteem, trauma, abuse, managing contact and attachment difficulties.
Training for parents includes workshops on life story work, therapeutic play, parenting programmes, and sessions focused on race and identity, helping parents build the skills and knowledge needed to support their children effectively.
We also distribute regular newsletters to keep adopters informed about the latest developments, upcoming training opportunities, and available resources.
Additionally, we assist with funding applications through the Adoption Support Fund (ASF), if this is identified as appropriate during a support needs assessment. This funding supports specific therapeutic interventions identified during the assessment of support needs, which are then provided by qualified therapeutic professionals.
