Marcus

Age: 10 months old
Ethnicity: White and Black Caribbean

Marcus is a cheerful, smiley little boy who is currently thriving in his foster home. After a difficult start in life, he has made remarkable progress and is now showing his fun-loving and adventurous personality every day.

He loves being outside and exploring the world around him—whether he’s at the local park, playing in the garden, or sliding down his favourite slide. Marcus also enjoys messy play, painting, building with blocks, and anything hands-on that allows him to be creative and active.

Health and Development

Marcus had a challenging start due to withdrawal symptoms at birth, following exposure to drugs and alcohol during pregnancy. In the early weeks and months, he struggled with settling and attachment, but thanks to consistent care and love from his foster carers, he has made significant progress. His development continues to be closely monitored, and while there is still some uncertainty about his long-term needs, he is currently doing well and responding positively to his stable environment.

Marcus will benefit from a family that is patient, observant, and open to working with professionals if additional needs become clearer over time.

Cultural Identity and Family Needs

Marcus’s identity must be celebrated and nurtured. As gets older his hair will need specific care, and his ethnic and cultural background should be embraced in his new family. We are looking for parents who can promote his heritage and ideally reflect his ethnicity, or who are willing to learn and actively support his cultural needs.

Maintaining Connections

Marcus comes from a large sibling group—he is one of nine children. Maintaining safe and supported contact with his birth family is an important part of his story. Any adoptive family will need to be open to keeping in touch, which may include letterbox contact or face-to-face visits, depending on what is in Marcus’s best interests.

We will work closely with his new family to develop a well-supported contact plan, helping Marcus retain those important connections while feeling safe and secure in his adoptive home.

Every child’s contact needs are different, but having a sense of connection to birth family plays a key role in helping adopted children understand their identity and grow with confidence in who they are.
